Kruger National Park Entrance Gates — A Practical Guide

Kruger has nine entrance gates spread across 360 km of fence line. The right one for you depends on where you're flying into and which camp you've booked.
The Nine Gates at a Glance
- Numbi Gate — closest to KMIA (55 min), opens to Pretoriuskop
- Phabeni Gate — quieter southern alternative via Hazyview
- Paul Kruger Gate — busiest gate, opens directly to Skukuza
- Malelane Gate — N4 access, best for Berg-en-Dal
- Crocodile Bridge — Komatipoort, southern plains
- Orpen Gate — central Kruger, Satara, Timbavati access
- Phalaborwa Gate — northern gateway to Letaba & Olifants
- Punda Maria Gate — far north, Pafuri and baobab country
- Pafuri Gate — extreme north, mainly for Makuleke Concession
Best Gate If You're Flying Into KMIA
For first-time visitors, Numbi Gate (55 min) and Phabeni Gate (70 min) are the natural choices — both put you in the high-density southern bushveld within a couple of hours of landing.
If you're heading to Sabi Sands, your driver will route via Newington gate (a private reserve entrance, not a Kruger gate) — typically 90 minutes from KMIA.
Best Gate If You're Driving From Johannesburg
From OR Tambo or Pretoria, Malelane Gate is the obvious choice — it sits directly on the N4 toll road. Total drive time is 4.5–5 hours to the gate. Crocodile Bridge is another 30 minutes east, opening into great lion country.

- Apr & Aug – Sep: 06:00 – 18:00
- May – Jul: 06:00 – 17:30
- Camps close 30 minutes before the gates — plan accordingly
